Llanharan’s oldest player George Gomer Latham has died at the age of 100. He was born at the end of the First World War and started playing for the club in the 1930’s. He was a stalwart of the club’s front row for many years. In October last year George celebrated his 100th birthday by leaving his hospital bed to attend Llanharan’s game against Abercwmboi, where he was presented with a specially designed Llanharan shirt from his grandchildren, with his shirt number one on the back. He was also presented with a plaque and club hat by President Randall Martin. George attended most games and when the club moved to the Dairyfield, he regularly took his seat in the stand. All at Llanharan Rugby Club would like to send our heartfelt condolences to George’s family.
