Message from Adrian Tattersall Life Member and Ex Chairman of Llanharan RFC
Today, April 27th is the Birthday of one of Llanharan RFC’s genuine characters, as Roy Wilcox, more
commonly known as ‘Rocking Roy’, celebrates his 80th Birthday.
Roy was one of the true stalwarts of the club, he worked tirelessly carrying out maintenance works
along with Rhys Taylor and their foreman Dai Jenkins, He not only maintained both changing rooms
at the Welfare and on our main ground, he also marked both pitches on match days along with his
other Saturday duties.
Roy was born in Trebanog, but moved to Llanharan some 20 plus years ago, he quickly become a
firm favourite with everyone at the club, and became one of the bar favourites. He was quick of wit
and would take no prisoners, with his straight and honest talking no matter who you were or what
position you held in the club.
His rapport with all the senior and youth players and coaches was second to none, especially when
he went on the club tours, a true character, but more importantly a true friend to many, especially
myself Adrian Tattersall and all of my family, Roy was not only my Best Man at my Wedding but is still one of my best mates after 50 years.
His endeavour in working for the club was duly rewarded in 2011 when he received the President’s
Award, something he was truly proud of.
Adrian Tattersall
Life Member and past Chairman
