Abercrave RFC 3 Llanharan RFC 54

On a sunny day made for running rugby, Llanharan finally won the elusive Glamorgan County Silver Ball Competition, beating a game Abercrave RFC by 54-3.

Llanharan made the early running in the match putting Abercrave under pressure, which paid off when from a scrum five the Llanharan forwards drove their opponents back for No.8 Ieuan Pring to score. Scott Jones converted. Abercrave kicked a penalty to make the score 7-3 to Llanharan. Good work by both the backs and the forwards ended up with Jack Pring scoring wide out, making the score 12-3 to Llanharan. The next try was set up by the forwards and with Ieuan Pring in the back line, the ball was moved wide for Mitch Jones to score. Scott Jones converted to make the 19-3. Our next try was a forwards try with a rolling maul from 20 yards ending up with hooker Jack Walker scoring. Scott Jones converted to make the score 26-3. Llanharan then went down to 14 men, when Jack Thomson was shown a yellow card. Jack Pring was injured and replaced by Joe Davies. Our next try once again showed our all round passing ability, with backs and forwards combining to put Adam Lewis over. Scott Jones converted to make the score 33-3. Llanharan's last try before half was down to a moment of brilliance by Joe Davies, leaping in the air to catch a Scott Jones cross kick, catching the ball in mid air and charging for the line to score. Scott Jones once again converted.

Lewis Cogbill came on at the start of the second half replacing the injured Adam Lewis. Abercrave then had a player red carded for back chat but they kept testing Llanharan's defensive ability. The forwards and backs combined with some neat inter passing, which then led to Joe Davies break, Ieuan Pring was on his shoulder to touch down under the posts. Scott Jones converted once again. Llanharan then emptied their bench. The final try came from a Joe Davies break from inside his own half, with Ieuan Evans on his shoulder to touch down under the posts. Scott Jones converted.

Thank you Abercrave RFC for making us work for our win, especially in the second half. We wish you the best of luck next week in your quest for promotion.

Ieuan Pring was a well deserved Player of the Match.

It was a great day for the Club, at long last we have won the Silver Ball, at the third time of asking. Congratulation to everyone at the Club, Players, Coaches, Committee and Supporters. One game to go on Tuesday against Llantrisant, when hopefully we can put the icing on the cake with an unbeaten season, which will take these boys in to the History Books.
