There will be no day out for Llanharan supporters in Cardiff this year after they were knocked out of the Div 3 WRU Cup by a very focused Lampeter Team. Lampeter brought a vociferous band of support with them which created a great atmosphere for the game.
Lampeter went ahead by kicking 3 penalty goals and adding a converted try, to give them a 16-0 lead. Llanharan responded with a try from Ieuan Pring, to make the score 16-5 to the visitors at half time.
Lampeter had controlled the first half with a strong wind behind them but now Llanharan came back in to the game. Leon Burton scored a try, which he converted himself, to make the score 16-12 to Lampeter. Despite pounding away at the Lampeter line, Llanharan couldn't find a way through a determined Lampeter defence and at the final whistle Lampeter were worthy winners by 16 points to 12.
Coach Gareth Nicholas, was away in America for this game, had he been there he would have noted no lack of effort from his players. Llanharan probably had the better scrum and line out. However, Lampeter played the conditions better and with a back line who moved the ball well, always looked dangerous on the counter attack.
We wish Lampeter the best of luck in the next round and hope to see them in the final in April.
