Llanharan 31 versus Risca 40
Last game of the season for Llanharan Youth vs Risca Youth and fair play neither side left anything out there.
Risca started the game the stronger of the sides, and very quickly scored 3 converted tries, making the score 21- nil in 15 minutes. After a stern talking too, the home side hit straight back with a great team combined attack, which resulted in a try by Llew under the sticks, 7-21.
Our next attack came came straight from the restart, numerous phases later going from left to right allowed our very own flyer, Connor to score in the corner, 12-21.
The young dairymen's tails were up now and straight off the restart, Lloyd was like a bull in a China shop, making his way back towards risca's try line. The ever-present captain Harry, who's never far from the action, was quick to support the play and dived over, for the 3rd try. Making it 19-21 at this point.
Llan weren't done yet, with 5 minutes to the break, the boys were off again playing champagne rugby, phase after phase basketball passing their way over for our 4th try through fullback tom, making it 26-21 to the home side.
After a cool down and a drink at the break, both sides came out ready to pick up where they'd left off. Risca scored two quick converted tries early in the second period making the score 26-35. The pace and commitment never let up, even with the introduction of numerous players off the bench for both sides.
Llanharan's fifth and final try came from an audacious interception off the back of the scrum some 40 metres out. Captain Harry read the eight pick from the back of the scrum, and like all good 7's was gifted, when the ball fell in his hands, and he was away and under the posts. I heard the ref comment later "is he ever onside!", 31-35.
Unfortunately the home side ran out of puff and subs, and Risca exploited their final opportunity to score making it 31-40.
Overall, great effort, some real entertaining rugby played by both sides, and some individual brilliance on show. Llanharan's mom was Lloyd Roberts.
Scorers tries Llew Gwyn, Connor Jones, Tom Owen, and Harry Roberts.
Cons x3 Evan Halse.
Coach
