Match Report 7.8.21

PENTYRCH 14 LLANHARAN 19

Here's a tongue in cheek (i think! ) match report from Coach Gareth Nicholas.

The 7th of August 2021, will go down as the date that normality started to return to the rugby fraternity of South Wales. This was to be the first competitive fixture for over a year and a half.

A new look Llanharan team took the field against Pentyrch, brimming with confidence, despite the absence of 10 1st team squad members.

In a one sided 1st half, Llanharan were disappointed to turn around with the score at 7 - 7. Completely against the run of play, Pentyrch scored a patient and well constructed try, well converted from the touch line. After continued pressure, a clean break at the base of a ruck, by evergreen scum half, Craig Burton, and a well timed pass saw Ross Pritchard cross the line under the posts and Scott Jones, son of the best smelling man in Llanharan, converted to add the extras.

Pentyrch again scored first to go up 14 - 7. But the new look Llanharan team did not panic, and once again, pressure told, with 44 year old Craig Burton being brought down inches from the line, only for the new slimline Brandon Nelson, to smash his way over. Once again to be converted by the chocolate boy himself, Scott Jones. Making the score14 - 14 The final nail in the coffin for Pentyrch was the match winning try scored by social time bomb, Roy Furnival, after some impressive drives by the tight forwards, and a superb offload by Ieuan Evans. With 10 minutes to go, the sizeable Llanharan support, including the legendary back row trio of Denver Thomson, Alan Evans and Meirion Reynolds, were glad to hear the final whistle.

Andy Price, celebrating his 64th birthday, acknowledged the game winning contribution of the forwards.
